Amid a growing global burden of obesity and metabolic diseases and the increasing need for international medical collaboration, EziSurg Medical and Peking University International Hospital co-hosted the 2025 China-Jordan International Bariatric and Metabolic Management Technology Exchange Conference. The event featured leading surgeons from China and Jordan, including Dr. Zhang Nengwei, Director of the International Weight Management Center at Peking University International Hospital, and Dr. Mohammad Ibrahim Al-Hrout, Director of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery at Prince Ali Hospital and President of the Jordanian Surgeons Association.
Under the theme “Innovation, Standardization, Integration, Win-Win,” the conference facilitated in-depth exchanges on minimally invasive surgery (MIS) techniques and metabolic surgery standards through video demonstrations, thematic presentations, and roundtable discussions.
The conference gathered top experts from both countries. Dr. Zhang Nengwei, a pioneer and leading figure in China’s bariatric and metabolic surgery field, and his team at Peking University International Hospital’s International Weight Management Center are not only renowned for their comprehensive treatment of complex obesity and metabolic diseases but have also developed several “Chinese solutions” incorporated into international guidelines, showcasing China’s growing influence on the global stage.
Dr. Mohammad and his team, known for their expertise in laparoscopic upper gastrointestinal surgery, hold a prominent position in metabolic surgery in Jordan and the broader Middle East. Their active participation in international academic initiatives reflects the region’s advanced capabilities and dynamic growth in this field.
During the conference, the experts focused on the latest advancements in bariatric and metabolic surgery. Dr. Zhang’s team showcased advanced procedures, including Single-Incision Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, receiving strong acclaim from the Jordanian delegation. Dr. Mohammad shared insights on surgical adaptations for patients with common comorbidities in the Middle East, including severe insulin resistance, and discussed perioperative management strategies.
In the thematic discussion session, both sides engaged in in-depth dialogues on key issues, including surgical strategies for super obesity, mechanisms of long-term type 2 diabetes remission after metabolic surgery, the applications and controversies of endoscopic interventions in weight loss, and the potential of artificial intelligence in patient risk prediction and postoperative management. Drawing on extensive clinical databases and research projects, the experts presented evidence-based perspectives and facilitated rigorous academic discussions.
A highlight of the event was the “China-Jordan Roundtable on Quality and Safety Standards in Metabolic Surgery,” where both sides exchanged views on surgical indications, perioperative complication management, and long-term follow-up systems, with a shared commitment to advancing standardized clinical practice. In response to the rise of cross-border patient care, the experts also discussed building efficient, culturally sensitive models for international patient communication, education, and management.
The conference also marked a milestone in collaboration between Chinese and Jordanian surgeons, with Dr. Zhang and Dr. Mohammad announcing joint multi-center research projects, a long-term physician exchange program, and an international consultation platform for complex cases. These initiatives aim to deepen academic cooperation and drive sustained innovation in bariatric Surgery.
The 2025 China-Jordan International Bariatric and Metabolic Management Technology Exchange Conference is a key part of EziSurg Medical’s global academic exchange platform, which has fostered collaborations with leading experts from China, the United States, Chile, Brazil, and beyond. This new event expanded the network into the Middle East, leveraging the world-class platform of Peking University International Hospital and the internationally recognized expertise of both Dr. Zhang and Dr. Mohammad. Together, the conference established a lasting platform for long-term collaboration between Chinese and Jordanian surgeons in advancing metabolic health.
Looking ahead, EziSurg Medical will further expand its international academic exchange platform by working with leading global experts to drive scientific innovation, clinical collaboration, and technological advancement in bariatric and metabolic surgery. Through these initiatives, the company is committed to promoting shared standards and contributing to the global development of MIS.
